How do I perform basic pedal maintenance?

For basic maintenance: 

1. Remove pedals from the bike using an 8mm hex key. 
2. Clean the exterior with a brush and mild degreaser. 
3. Wipe down and dry thoroughly. 
4. Apply a small amount of grease to the spindle threads before reinstalling. 
5. Check all pins are tight and replace any damaged ones.
